What is sperm?

Sperm is the male reproductive cell that is produced in the testes. It is equipped with a head containing genetic material, a midsection containing mitochondria for energy, and a tail that propels it forward. The production of sperm occurs through a process called spermatogenesis, which typically begins during puberty and continues throughout a man's life. Sperm plays a crucial role in fertilization and the creation of offspring. When a sperm cell successfully penetrates and fuses with a female egg cell, fertilization occurs, and the resulting zygote contains a combination of genetic material from both parents.
