What is the water cycle?

The cycle involves the evaporation of water from oceans, lakes, and other bodies of water, which then forms clouds in the atmosphere. These clouds release their moisture as precipitation, which can take the form of rain, snow, hail, or sleet. The water that falls to the ground is then either absorbed by plants and animals, or it flows into streams, rivers, and other bodies of water. Some water also seeps underground and becomes groundwater. Eventually, all the water in the cycle returns to the oceans and the process begins anew. The water cycle is essential to maintaining the Earth's ecosystem and is a vital component of many natural and human activities.
