What is DNA?

DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the primary genetic material that contains all the information necessary for the development and functioning of living organisms. It is a long, complex molecule made up of four types of nucleotide bases, namely adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T), arranged in a specific sequence that determines the genetic code. The structure of DNA is generally described as a double helix, with two complementary strands of nucleotides spiraling around each other. DNA is the blueprint of life and carries instructions for the production of proteins that are essential for cells to carry out biological processes.
