What is the human digestive system?

The human digestive system is responsible for breaking down food into nutrients that can be absorbed and used by the body. This system includes several organs, including the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. Digestion begins in the mouth where food is mechanically and chemically broken down by enzymes and saliva. The food then travels through the esophagus to the stomach where it is further broken down before moving into the small intestine, where most of the nutrients are absorbed. The remaining waste products move into the large intestine where water is absorbed before being eliminated through the rectum and anus.
