How are UAS classified?

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are classified based on their size, weight, and intended use. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) classifies UAS into six categories: Nano, Micro, Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large. Nano drones are typically under 250 grams, whereas Micro drones weigh between 250g and 2kg. Small drones are capable of carrying payloads of up to 55 pounds, whereas medium drones can carry up to 330 pounds. Large drones, also known as "Unmanned Cargo Aircraft," are capable of carrying payloads over 330 pounds. Finally, X-Large drones are designed for military use and can carry weapons and other advanced equipment. The classification of UAS is important for determining regulatory requirements and airspace restrictions.
