How is the ACT government structured?

The ACT government has a unicameral parliamentary system with the Legislative Assembly as the sole law-making body. The head of the government is the Chief Minister, who is appointed by the speaker of the Assembly. The Chief Minister leads the Cabinet, which is responsible for the administration of the territory. The Assembly consists of 25 members who are elected for a four-year term through a form of proportional representation. In addition, the ACT has a non-voting member of the federal parliament, who represents the territory's interests in the national parliament. The courts in the ACT are independent of the government.
