What is deconstruction?

Deconstruction is a theoretical approach developed by French philosopher Jacques Derrida in the 1960s. It challenges traditional assumptions of language and seeks to reveal how meaning is constructed, undermined, and deconstructed within texts. Deconstruction is a method of critical analysis that aims to expose the deeply embedded binaries, hierarchies, and contradictions present in language and in the way we understand the world. It emphasizes the importance of uncovering the multiple interpretations and layers of meaning that exist within a text, rather than relying on a single fixed understanding. Deconstruction encourages a skepticism towards established knowledge and promotes a fluid and dynamic understanding of language and reality.
