The axillary artery is a major blood vessel located in the armpit region. It rises from the subclavian artery and runs along the upper arm towards the elbow where it continues as the brachial artery. The axillary artery supplies blood to the shoulder joint, the muscles of the upper arm, and various other structures in the upper limb. It can be palpated in the axilla and is used as a site for measuring blood pressure. Injuries or diseases of the axillary artery can lead to inadequate blood supply to the arm, causing symptoms such as weakness, numbness, or pain.
