How are ADHD and autism different?

ADHD, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and autism are two separate neurodevelopmental conditions that share some overlapping symptoms. ADHD is primarily characterized by difficulty in paying attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, while autism is primarily characterized by difficulties in social interaction and communication, as well as behavioral and sensory issues. People with ADHD may have trouble following through on tasks, staying organized, or sitting still, while those with autism may have difficulty understanding social cues or following social norms, and may also have repetitive behaviors or fixations. While there may be some similarities between the two conditions, they are distinct disorders with unique diagnostic criteria and treatment approaches.
