What is SSL?

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and it is a protocol that enables secure communication over the internet. It works by establishing a secure and encrypted connection between a user's web browser and a server, ensuring that any data shared between the two remains private and protected from unauthorised access. SSL is commonly used to secure online transactions such as payments and to protect sensitive user data, including login information and personal details, from online hackers and cyberattacks. SSL has been superseded by the updated and more secure Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol.
