Sexual reproduction in animals involves the fusion of male and female gametes that results in the formation of a zygote. The process begins with the gametogenesis, in which sperm and eggs are produced through meiosis. At the time of fertilization, the sperm cell fuses with the egg cell, leading to the formation of zygote which represents the first step towards a new life. The zygote undergoes several rounds of cell division until it reaches the blastocyst stage, which is the first recognizable stage of an embryo. Finally, the embryo implants in the uterus, where it develops until birth. The process of sexual reproduction ensures genetic diversity in offspring and is vital for the survival of the species.
