What is sanity testing?

Sanity testing is a quick and focused testing process that is carried out on a software build to ensure that the most crucial and important functionalities are working as expected after any changes or enhancements have been made. It is used to determine whether the application is stable enough for further testing and is usually performed after a major code change or before starting a full round of testing. Sanity testing is not meant to be exhaustive but rather used to verify that the software is still in a usable state and will not waste time on more comprehensive testing if major issues are present.
