Who was Alfred Wallace?

Alfred Wallace was a British naturalist, explorer, geographer, and biologist who lived from 1823 to 1913. He is best known for developing the theory of evolution by natural selection independently and simultaneously with Charles Darwin. Wallace was a prolific writer and collected thousands of specimens of animals and plants during his expeditions to the Amazon and Malay Archipelago.
