The Partition of India was the division of British India into two separate states, India and Pakistan, on 15th August 1947. The partition was mainly due to the religious conflict between Hindus and Muslims, and the inability of the Congress Party and the Muslim League to create a united and secular India. The partition led to one of the largest migrations in history, with millions of people moving across the border. The partition also resulted in widespread violence and bloodshed, leaving an estimated one to two million people dead and many more displaced and traumatized. Today, the legacy of the partition continues to shape the politics and social dynamics of the subcontinent.
