What is vulnerable/hypersensitive narcissism?

Vulnerable/hypersensitive narcissism is a type of narcissistic personality disorder that is characterized by low self-esteem, a constant need for validation and attention, and a high level of sensitivity to criticism or rejection. People who have this type of narcissism may appear to be shy, introverted or even passive, but they can become aggressive or defensive when their ego or self-image is threatened. Unlike grandiose narcissism, which is characterized by exaggerated self-importance and a sense of entitlement, vulnerable narcissism is marked by insecurity, feelings of inadequacy, and overreactions to perceived slights. Individuals with vulnerable/hypersensitive narcissism may struggle with relationships and have difficulty regulating emotions, leading to issues with anxiety and depression.
