What are the three states of matter?

The three states of matter are solid, liquid, and gas. Solids have a fixed shape and volume, and their particles are tightly packed and unable to move freely. Liquids have a definite volume but take the shape of their container, with particles that are loosely packed and able to move around. Gases have neither a definite shape nor volume and their particles are highly spaced out and move rapidly in all directions. These three states of matter can be transformed from one to another through various means, such as heating or cooling.
