What is DNS?

DNS, or Domain Name System, is a system used to translate domain names into IP addresses. Essentially, DNS serves as the phone book of the internet, allowing users to access websites, send emails, and perform other online activities by using easily memorable domain names instead of complex numerical IP addresses. When a user types a domain name into their web browser, DNS servers are queried to find the corresponding IP address, enabling the device to connect to the desired website or service.
